Before making the decision to move to Spain, or more specifically to Barcelona, you should look at the cost of living in this country. In reality, even with all this information, it is quite hard to estimate how much your monthly cost of living will be. Finally, to have a little idea of how you need to earn to live comfortably in Barcelona, your salary should be around 2500€ to 3500€ a month per person (keep in mind that this is an average of the monthly salary in Barcelona and it’s going to vary from sector to sector).   1. Housing

This category highly depends on where in Barcelona you want to live. Some neighborhoods are cheaper than others, especially is you get further away from the city center. Also, when you are planning your move, don’t forget that you might need to pay a 2-months deposit (this quantity might vary depending on the landlord) and/or the real estate service fee, in case you decided to use one.

In Spain, there are two big companies that dominate this category: Gasnatural (for gas) and ENDESA (for electricity). In addition, some apartment’s rent come with all utilities include, sometimes even the internet included, to make it easier. Then when it comes to mobile phone and internet connection, you have so many companies to choose from, the most famous ones are: Movistar, Orange, Vodafone, Yoigo, and Lebara. We decided to not include the prices for phone contracts because it varies depending on your needs.

In Spain you have a good variety of supermarkets, it all depends on your location and your preferences: Mercadona, Carrefour, El Corte Inglés, Lidl, Bon Preu, Dia, Eroski, Caprabo, Spar, etc. Alternatively, you can find the multiple 24-hour Pakistani-owned “supermercados”, which stay open on Sundays.
